July 2010
Dear Supervisor:
Thank you for approving the Candlestick Point - Hunters Point Shipyard Phase II Environmental Impact Report. Your vote is helping to revitalize a long neglected neighborhood bringing jobs, housing and parks to San Francisco.
A broad-based coalition of Bayview neighbors and residents, merchant associations and small businesses, faith groups, the San Francisco Labor Council and advocates for recreation, youth, open space and transit and now the Board of Supervisors has helped make this plan a reality.
The Bayview Hunters Point community deserves increased business and employment opportunities; housing options at a range of affordability levels; improved public recreation and open space amenities; an integrated transportation, transit and infrastructure plan; and other economic public benefits, all of which would collectively have no net negative impact on the City’s General Fund.
Please reject efforts to eliminate the bridge over Yosemite Slough, a key jobs/housing link for the project and a key element of the stadium alternative. Reject also unrealistic and unknowing "stronger" language related to the clean up of the Shipyard and a myriad of other poison pill amendments that will undoubtedly be presented by project opponents.
It is imperative that the plan moves forward on July 27, 2010 as presented to the full board by the Land Use and Economic Development Committee.
Vote yes on July 27, 2010 to keep the plan moving forward. Your unwavering support is needed now to guarantee an economic renaissance for Bayview Hunters Point. Please support the plan as is and join us as we embark on this historic effort.
Thank you,
